  3. Our age and weight schematics ensure a safer environment for all players THROUGHOUT THE NATION. The schematic is used by 360,000 Pop  Warner football players! See Mayo Clinic Report where they explain that players in higher grades and heavier in WEIGHT are the most susceptible to injuries.

  4. Our mandatory play rules ensure playing time in every game.

  5. Teams are assigned by association (school district) boundaries that players will attend. Children will play with their classmates and neighborhood friends to create community pride and help better establish fairness throughout Clark County  for the High Schools that they will attend.

  6. Coaches attend the NFL/National Football Foundation Coaches Clinic.

  7. All games officiated by the high School Referees. (Evergreen Football Officials Association).

Notes about the age and weight schematic:

A quick local note. The age and weight schematic is not intended to prevent any child from playing, rather to ensure fairness and safety. Players are placed into divisions that allow for their growth. For example a child that is at the upper edge of a division can move to the next highest division to ensure they fall within the specified weight range during the season, and therefore would never be in jeopardy of exceeding their division's weight. Every player of every Pop Warner team in Vancouver played in 2003 and 2004!

  1. Age: The age of the player is their age on July 31st of the playing season. For example if a player's birthday is after August 1st and they are 12 turning 13, then their playing age for the season is 12. Depending on their weight and skill level they could play in one of 3 divisions.

  2. Weight: All players are allowed an in season growth allowance of 9 pounds. So if they are a Jr. Midget  and they weigh 125lbs at the beginning of the season they are allowed to gain 9 pounds during the season, one pound per week to a final weight of 134 lbs.

  3. Weigh In: All weights listed above are without gear, weigh-ins are in gear and a weight allowance is subtracted for gear.

  4. O/L Players: Older but Lighter players are allowed. For example, if a player is 13 yrs old on or before July 31st and they are between 80-105 lbs then they would qualify as an older but lighter player in the Jr. midget division.  These players are also allowed an in season weight gain of 9 pounds

  5. Southwest Washington Pop Warner League Divisions:  All of the above divisions are open for registration. Participants will be placed in divisions by the Association under the supervision of the league based on their age, weight, and previous tackle football experience.  If a player's  desired division does not fill, they may be moved to the next highest or lowest division, depending on which one fits their age and weight. If a player does not want to move to a different division or can not move because of age/weight, a refund will be granted.

  6. National: The age schematic is used nationally so teams from other regions are always matched against similar sized players.

  7. Benefits: Players have no stripes, all players are eligible for any position. Similar weights help keep children safe.

  • In Pop Warner Football, there is “an absence of catastrophic head and neck injuries and disruptive joint injuries found at higher levels.”
  • The injury rate in Pop Warner Football is:
    • less than 1/3 the injury rate in high school football
    • less than 1/5 the injury rate in college football
    • less than 1/9 the injury rate in professional football
  • Pop Warner’s age-weight schematic protects younger, lighter players, who do not have higher injury rates.
  • Organized football among 5 – 15 year-olds has 12% FEWER injuries per capita than organized soccer in the same age range.
  • Organized football among 5 – 15 year-olds has 50% FEWER injuries per capita than bicycle riding in the same age range.
  • Organized football among 5 – 15 year-olds has 74% FEWER injuries per capita than skateboarding in the same age group.
  • Injuries in youth football are normally mild, and older players have a higher injury rate than younger players.
